FitNow Group Fitness
Brian Koning, the owner of FitNow Group Fitness, has an interesting story. He had been working in marketing and advertising in the corporate world for over 26 years, when he was classified as morbidly obese. He lost more than 85 lbs and reversed his type 2 diabetes and other obesity-related health conditions, and left the corporate world to help others do the same. In May 2011 he opened FitNow Group Fitness in Westfield, Indiana, a fitness boot camp program for everyday people of all fitness levels. Today, it's one of the most successful independent fitness boot camp program in the Indianapolis, Indiana area.
FitNow has active Twitter and Facebook accounts. Brian uses them to share exercise tips and tricks, and information about upcoming courses and events the gym is running. Any extra encouragement is always welcome from gym members - and social media provides just the way to provide that encouragement on an ongoing basis. FitNow also has an active blog, where Brian writes about new staff members, events, inspiration, and tips about food and exercise.
Brian knows that for his business to succeed, he has to inspire loyalty in his clients. He sets them both goals, and rewards. He's very realistic about most people's attitude to exercise - and that's why he believes that all his customers need to be inspired to exercise, and also to be loyal to themselves:
For a client to stay engaged, they need motivation to wake up every morning, put their feet on the floor, get dressed, and come to my gym to work out. It's easy to hit the snooze button and go back to sleep or make up another excuse not to work out. They must be loyal to themselves to put their body through tough workouts every single day and to eat healthy.
Many of the clients at FitNow are there because they're excited to make a healthy lifestyle change, and are tired of being out of shape or overweight. Brian says that many times, it's not that people don't want to exercise, it's more than they don't know how or don't enjoy working out alone. His mission is to give these people the tools to exercise properly and become motivated.
FitNow signed up with LoyalBlocks at the beginning of August, and is already doing an amazing job. Brian has come up with an innovative way to use the app, by assigning people FitPoints when they unlock a token. They can then exchange these for fitness equipment, apparel, gift cards, and membership discounts. Brian says:
It gives me a simple way to reward my clients by allowing them to not only check in every day that they visit, but I don't have to do it manually.
For example, unlock the Welcome Token at FitNow and you can earn 25 FitPoints. That's a pretty good way to encourage new members to come along - I'd certainly be more likely to go to the gym if I could get something for free. Attend regularly, fill up a punch card, come during slow hours, or share your check-in on Facebook, and you'll earn more FitPoints. Brian also uses the app to send encouraging messages to clients, letting them leave the gym feeling satisfied and proud of their workout.
