We've been on the lookout for a small business that creates an amazing feeling of community and treats its customers right while still doing good, profitable business. This kind of dual approach to local commerce is what makes our communities thrive, and promotes sustainability not only to people in need, but to the businesses themselves!
Thanks to a ton of great nominations (you guys are awesome!), we've found our winner:
Jenny and Frank's Artisan Gelato of PA!!!
This #ExceptionalSmallBusiness prides itself on helping local organizations. Inspired by Italian grandparents, the owners of Jenny and Frank's handmake every micro batch of gelato using local dairy, eggs, fruit and herbs. Their flavors range from Hazelnut to seasonal flavors such as eggnog and pumpkin pie.
Jenny and Frank's participated in #Pints4Papa this past September, in which for every pint of gelato purchased, $1 was donated to Philabundance, a Philadelphia Metropolitan food donation organztion that "rallies the public to raise awareness about hunger, to take action to alleviate it and to raise food and funds to fight it." Jenny and Frank's sold over 600 pints which resulted in 1,200 meals for Philabundance!
Mid-October through Thanksgiving, Jenny and Frank's also teamed up with Feel the Warmth--a "non-profit that provides school supplies, uniforms, winter coats, children's books and toys to the less fortunate children in the greater Philadelphia region," and collected over 60 coats, plus numerous vests, hats and cold weather accessories to those in need.
When Lower Providence Ambulance had their open house to celebrate the opening of their new facilities, Jenny and Frank's donated gelato for their entire event! They also provide discounts to military personnel and college students.
Jenny and Frank's Artisan Gelato is an amazing #ExceptionalSmallBusiness and exactly the type of business that we feel represents what we've been searching for. They continuiously support their local community and have plenty of gelato-eating fans!
We're proud to present Jenny and Frank with our ceremonious award plaque for exceptional business, 3 months of flok for free, beautiful custom marketing materials and more!
MODE Fargo: Over the past year, MODE Fargo has given back in a big way. Aside from having fantastic customer service, every month, they do a MODE it Forward and give away 2 FREE pairs of jeans to women in need. This past July, they gave away 100 pairs to women in the community! They also hold VIP parties and donate a percentage of sales to local charities.
All-Pro Cleaning and Restoration: This past year, the local youth football team was in need of new equipment to keep the kids safe while playing. All-Pro Cleaning and Restoration donated 10% of final invoices if a customer mentioned youth football--to the football team! Next year, they plan to donate 5% of revenue to buy needy families gifts for Christmas.
We urge all local merchants to use these examples and find their own way to combine great business with community awareness and action! This has always been the source of strength for our neighborhoods, towns and even big cities. Let's keep giving and getting back!
